Who else out there lives their life in snippets? Time starved? Too many events, tasks, responsibilities to fit into a human day.
And so, I live and share my life in snippets. I crave the brief view of sunrise, to catch the pelican gliding above the waves, and the prismatic light of sunset streaming through my door. All in a day of entering information into a computer to help move life along to assist in fulfilling a dream/milestone of many.
A snippet that grabs my heart string today is a video of my granddaughter saying “I love you, too, Mommy”. A replay of my dear mother walking with her great-grand daughters down the driveway to check the mail as that same sun rises over the mountain in the distance draws the tears from deep within to the surface, falling gently onto the page.
Where does time go, when you wake up one day and discover that your mother is gone, you become the next in line and you know you only have have snippets to share and remember.
You remember her sweet smile and touch, the hug of reassurance when she tells you, “you are enough, you are capable, you are loved.”
The snippet you try to pass on to your grown children, sharing your time-starved rendition of “I’m there for you if you need anything at all.” Except you are not there every time they need something. You can only share a snippet of your promise, split between all your children and your grand children, and your obligations within the life you have chosen.
Yet, the joy exists in the snippet of promise. The promise of tomorrow’s sunrise, the hope of more time granted generously to you. Look for each snippet, hold it close as you treasure the small moment of peace captured in your view, cradle it in your arms, take the time to share it when you can, and embed it in your memory forever.
